Reflection on Time

                                                          by Greg Sergent

Time  it slips away!  Spring slips into summer, summer into fall, and fall into winter, and then we turn the page of the calendar that marks the end of a year and beginning of a new  year.   Days can become busy and noisy that demand our urgent attention now.  There is a real temptation to only attend to what is urgent  and neglect the reality of eternal.

The Ancient Roman culture embodied the fast life.  The Roman empire was the place a full life as defined by culture was fast.  Self indulgence, vice and various form of pleasure seeking characterized life in the Roman world.   Many if not most people did not even see the spiritual bankruptcy and internal decay and crumbling of the moral fiber.  It was the Apostle Paul who reminded the Roman readers that time is short, and with our sights on eternity, step up to a higher way of living. Romans 13.11-14

With so much that demands our attention, it is sometime easy to forget the deep and great eternal needs of the soul in our relationship with God.   Caught up with the urgent things of time, the important needs of the soul remain neglected.  A new year is a good time to evaluate and lean into to what matters for eternity. Prioritize your relationship with God in prayer, Bible reading and worship.  Celebrate family and build relationships.  Make the community of worship a priority by attending church, small groups, engaging in worship  and the life of the church.  Your spiritual health is important .  Be careful and not neglect  the weighty matters of the soul for lack of time.
